What a six-month-old is working on
Rolling, reaching, sitting with support and putting everything in their mouth. A short look at what is going on around the half-year mark, and what to leave within reach.

Around six months a lot happens at once, and most of it is about reach. A baby who could only bat at things a month ago starts to aim, grab and, almost always, bring the object straight to their mouth.
What you might see
- Rolling in one or both directions
- Sitting with support, then briefly without
- Passing an object from one hand to the other
- Mouthing everything, which is how a baby of this age reads the world
What helps at home
Floor time on a firm surface, and a small number of objects within reach rather than a basket full. Anything you leave out will go in the mouth, so size and finish matter more than features.
Every baby runs on their own clock. If something worries you, your pediatrician is the right person to ask.
