A tidy-up that takes four minutes
Not a system, not a whole afternoon. A small routine that makes the living room liveable again at the end of the day, and that a toddler can take part in.

Most tidying advice assumes you have an hour and no child attached to your leg. This one takes about four minutes and works because it is the same every night.
The routine
- One basket, not five. Everything loose goes in it.
- Sort only the basket, only if you feel like it.
- Put back the three things that live on a shelf, so the room reads as tidy even when the basket is full.
Why it works with a toddler
Carrying things to one place is a job a two-year-old can genuinely do. Sorting into categories is not, yet. Give them the part they can finish.
The aim is not a tidy house. It is starting tomorrow from a floor you can walk across.
